Terms of Service

Version
2026-08-30
Effective date
2026-08-30

These Terms govern your use of BeerRun, a free service provided by the BeerRun team ("we" and "us"). By creating an account, you agree to the current version of these Terms. The Privacy Notice separately explains how personal data is handled; acknowledging it is not blanket consent to all data processing.

1. The service and eligibility

BeerRun lets invited participants record drinks, locations, and optional photos in shared or public trip spaces called beer runs. The service is provided without charge and is intended only for adults aged 18 or older. You must not use it if you are under 18 or if using it would be unlawful where you live.

BeerRun is a trip log, not health or medical advice. Drink responsibly and follow local alcohol, safety, and travel laws. Never use the service while driving or in another situation where entering data would be unsafe.

2. Accounts and access

You may view public beer runs without an account. Creating an account is optional and is needed only if you choose to participate in a run or add entries.

You must provide accurate account information, keep your password and signup code private, and promptly report suspected account misuse. You are responsible for activity performed through your account unless it results from a security failure controlled by us. Do not share another person's credentials, impersonate someone, or attempt to bypass access controls.

An invitation or signup code does not guarantee permanent access. Beer-run owners control membership in their runs, and we may restrict access when reasonably necessary to protect users, the service, or the law.

3. Your content and who can see it

You retain ownership of text, drink records, locations, and photos you submit. You grant us a limited, non-exclusive, worldwide licence to host, store, process, resize, copy, and display that content only as needed to operate, secure, maintain, and improve BeerRun and to show it in the beer run you selected. This licence ends when the content is deleted.

Content in a public beer run can be viewed by anyone with access to the site. Content in a private beer run is intended for its members, but no online system can promise absolute confidentiality. Do not upload private information about another person, images you lack permission to share, or content you would not want the relevant audience to see.

BeerRun's source code is available under the MIT License. That software licence does not change your ownership of content you submit through the service.

4. Acceptable use

You must not use BeerRun to:

  • upload illegal, threatening, harassing, hateful, exploitative, or defamatory content;
  • violate privacy, image, intellectual-property, or other rights;
  • publish another person's precise location without a lawful and fair reason;
  • encourage dangerous drinking, harm, or illegal activity;
  • send malware, probe security, scrape excessively, overload the service, or evade limits;
  • sell access, advertise, spam, or use the service for an undisclosed commercial purpose; or
  • misrepresent automated activity as a real participant.

5. Human moderation and illegal-content reports

Reports and moderation decisions are reviewed by a person. We may remove or restrict content, suspend access, preserve evidence, or contact the relevant user when reasonably necessary. Context, severity, repeat behaviour, user rights, and mandatory law will be considered. No automated system makes final moderation decisions.

To report content you believe is illegal or prohibited, use the contact details in section 11 with the subject Illegal content report. Include:

  • the precise page, beer run, entry, or image location;
  • a clear explanation of why the content is illegal or violates these Terms;
  • supporting facts or law where reasonably available;
  • your name and a working contact email, unless the law permits anonymity; and
  • a good-faith statement that the information supplied is accurate and complete.

We may ask for more information, acknowledge the report, and explain the outcome where lawful and appropriate. This reporting channel does not replace emergency services or an official police report.

6. Service and Terms changes

Features may be changed, interrupted, or discontinued. The dated version shown during future account creation will be updated when these Terms change. Existing accounts are not automatically asked to agree again by the current service. Changes do not remove rights that mandatory law gives you for events that already occurred.

7. Suspension, termination, and deletion

You can delete individual drink entries in the app. You can also permanently delete your account through Account settings without contacting us. This removes your account, memberships, entries, Terms-acceptance records, and photos uploaded for your entries. If you own a beer run, you must delete that run first. Other users' accounts, entries, and photos are not deleted.

We may suspend or terminate access for a serious or repeated breach, security risk, unlawful activity, or necessary service closure. Where reasonable and lawful, we will explain the reason and allow you to raise relevant facts before or after action is taken.

8. Availability, backups, and data-loss risk

BeerRun is a small self-hosted service provided on a best-efforts basis. Uptime, uninterrupted access, and permanent storage are not guaranteed. The service currently has no routine backup system. Hardware failure, software error, deletion, or service closure may therefore cause permanent data loss. Keep your own copy of anything important and do not use BeerRun as your only record.

9. Responsibility and liability

To the extent permitted by law, we are not responsible for indirect loss, lost opportunities, user conduct, third-party content, or loss caused by relying on the service as a permanent archive. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including liability for intent or gross negligence where applicable, nor does it waive mandatory EU or national consumer and data-protection rights.

10. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the law of the Netherlands. This choice does not deprive an EU consumer of mandatory protections available under the law of their country of residence or of access to a court that mandatory law makes available. Please contact us first so a concern can be reviewed and, where possible, resolved informally.
